The Deacon Raleigh St James is a Seattle based singer-songwriter and bandleader.  A lifelong devotee to music, he started performing with his family in the church of his childhood.  Turning to guitar when his young daughters should be sung to sleep, the son of a music teacher became a self-taught obsessive.  The earthy work of John Fahey, Chris Whitley, and Mississippi John Hurt form a stage mural for Deacon's first instrument; voice. Passionate live performances are spliced with spoken word and improvisations, carrying you inside the world of the song with a strong sense of character and place.

Solo or small acoustic groups leave a clean space for new material to find the right volume, pace, and audience.  The Deacon also relishes the four piece Deacon Raleigh St James BAND for electric tube-driven storytelling.  Fundraisers, fire-pits, stairways, doorsteps, barns, backyards, garden parties, fields, woods, parking garages, rivers, alleys, taverns, clubs, dance halls, churches, corners, parks, barbershops, bakeries... all places to sing, and to draw inspiration from.

Deacon Raleigh is available for events, performances, projects, and collaborations of many and any kind.  Compensation is on a sliding scale, depending on the time and travel involved, level of difficulty, and number of other musicians who need to be paid.  Payment is acceptable in many forms; fun, exposure, exchange, food, service and beauty.  Some things need doing because they are just beautiful.
